Hewitt’s Meat Processing, Marshfield, WI

I love beef sticks. In the past, I wrote about beef sticks in Wisconsin. I even took a trip to Canada to try the pepperette, their version of a beef stick. Now you may wonder how did I acquire this taste for beef sticks? They’re common around my hometown of Marshfield, Wisconsin and one of the places that makes them is Hewitt’s Meat Processing. Hewitt’s Meat Processing is a fourth generation family affair. It started in the small town of Lindsey. That’s actually just down the road from my parents’ house about 10 miles south of Marshfield. Lindsey contains a small park, a general store, and Lindsey Bar.

As you can see, it’s about as local as you’re going to get. I took a quick drive to the original location.

With any business that makes excellent products, demand drives expansion. Hewitt’s recently opened a new facility in the industrial park in Marshfield.

When you walk in the new store has a modern, yet rustic country feel to it. It feels open and not congested like many of the small meat shops I have been to.

There’s a lot of good stuff to choose from. You may want to grab a basket!

This place really embodies Wisconsin. Besides tons of meat (beef sticks!), you can get wine, cheese, beer, pretty much anything pickled, and all the spices to tease your Upper Midwestern pallet.

The list of meat is actually pretty extensive!

It definitely is hard to make a choice. It seems the judges even agree!

I haven’t lived in Marshfield in 5 years, but I really wish this location was open when I lived there. I also worked in the same industrial park and this would have been a go to stop for lunch.

Since I was there, I had to get some beef sticks!

Hewitt’s is actually one of the places that has set my standard on what is a good beef stick. I have found a place called Westphalia Meat Market in Hutto, Texas that comes close, but isn’t the same. I found out Hewitt’s does ship across the US so maybe if I take a moment to stop driving around Texas (and North America), I’ll order something from their website and have a taste of home.
