One cool Texas Christmas Eve tradition is eating tamales and chili. While the rest of the country drinks up the egg nog and eats fruitcake, Texas has its own ideas. Being that Texas is like its own country and it’s heavily influenced by Southwestern and Mexican cultures, it only makes sense to do something a little different.
For the first Christmases I lived in Texas, I actually went to Wisconsin to visit family. Last year was my first Texas Christmas and Victoria’s brother Michael made us chili. We bought some tamales to go with it.
This year, we were in Bryan for Christmas. Victoria’s aunt Kathy is a phenomenal cook so she prepared the chili and tamales. She also made some savory baked beans.
I piled everything on my plate and put the full fixings on my chili.
I can definitely say this is a great meal to have on Christmas Eve. I guess I was really missing out when I lived in Wisconsin!
